Step back in time at the historic Loon Lake Irish House, an excellent home for family reunions and other group functions. There are currently 5 oversized bedrooms, each with its own full or half bathroom, perfect for group rentals or anyone who enjoys luxury. The kitchen is also large and is fully stocked with pots and pans, utensils, coffee maker and grinder, toaster, microwave, spices, garbage bags, etc. There is a large table in the kitchen and one in the dining room providing plenty of eating space. We also provide an extra refrigerator in the utility room off the kitchen for additional storage of all your food and beverages. You enter the home into a massive Great Room with a large sectional sofa to relax, a seating area in front of the fireplace and a table for puzzles and games. The wood work is beautiful throughout the house, and there are all original doors, hardware, bathroom fixtures, claw foot tubs, windows, massive hideaway doors and wood floors. The furnishing are Adirondack in style combined with a mixture of beautiful antiques and a collection of historic Loon Lake prints on the walls. The wraparound porch is welcoming and includes a large screened in area with a ceiling fan. It is a short walk (about 600 - 800 feet) to get to the waterfront area, which has a great beach for swimming with sandy bottom and a place to launch the boats. Loon Lake is a private lake and accessible to Loon Lake residents only; the beach is shared with other homeowners in Loon Lake. We have 1 large canoe and 2 kayaks on site for renters to use to enjoy the water; motorized boats or jet skis are not allowed (no exceptions). There is a picnic table in the yard for BBQ's and a fire pit in the backyard for outside gatherings. The yard is large enough to spread out and play lawn games.
There is so much that can be done right outside the Irish House. The historic golf course is no longer in operation but is a great place to take a stroll. You will find old trails through the woods to explore and view the amazing architecture of many of the original historic houses. The neighbors are friendly and many love to share the history of this beautiful town. Fishing is excellent in Loon Lake including small mouth bass, northern pike and perch or you can walk or drive a couple miles to the north branch of the Saranac River for trout fishing. There are many thousands of miles of hiking and biking trails right outside the door and we are in a great location for day hikes to some of the ADK high peaks or other beautiful mountains. Hiking books are available at the house to plan your trip or ask us for recommendations. Locally famous is Crusher Mountain at the north end of the lake. It is a very short hike (15-20 minutes) to the top with a fabulous view of the entire lake and Whiteface Mountain in the background. If you are more adventurous, Loon Lake Mountain is another great option, located about 5 miles from the Irish House. The recently maintained and well-marked trail takes you up to one of the original Adirondack fire towers at the summit. This hike is about 6 miles round trip and more strenuous but offers amazing views of the wilderness. Take a day trip to Saranac Lake, Lake Placid, or even Montreal. There are some great restaurants in town, lots of cool shops and many tourist attractions. Maybe take a trip back in time and ride the rails on the ADK Railroad. The Wild Center in Tupper Lake is a nature museum, which is fun for the whole family and is located about 35 minutes away. Even closer is the Paul Smith's Visitors Interpretive Center, which is a great place to see wildlife in nature and learn about the local ecology. We are certain you will enjoy your stay at the Irish House and we look forward to hearing from you.
